LAMPEDUSA

HighTide Festival & Unity Theatre, Liverpool (Link)

I was thrilled to revive my role as Denise. This time I played opposite Steven Elder as Stefano both at the HighTide Festival in Aldeburgh and then the Unity Theatre in Liverpool. Our show at the Unity was supported by a series of different community outreach pieces, including plays written in response to Lampedusa, cabaret and even an African beach party! Again, we were delighted to receive rave reviews: 4 stars: Liverpool Echo, Liverpool Sound & Vision

THE SECRET HISTORY

Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury (Link)

This play by Anders Lustgarten takes Elizabeth I’s spymaster Francis Walsingham as its subject and explores how he was the original creator of government surveillance. Directed by Justin Audibert (The Jew of Malta, RSC 2015 & Flare Path No.1 tour) we workshopped the play at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre, culminating in a rehearsed reading. I played Elizabeth I and also Frances, Walsingham’s daughter and wife of Sir Philip Sidney.

Lampedusa, Soho Theatre

Soho Theatre & Guardian (Link)
Following the success of LAMPEDUSA in the spring, Soho Theatre decided to invite the show back for a month-long run in the main house. The script was updated slightly to reflect the ongoing migration crisis that was hitting the headlines daily. 4 stars: The Guardian “His best yet… brave, bold and moving”
4 stars: The Times “Shattering”
4 stars: Independent “Powerfully affective”
4 stars: FT “Essential…heartening”
4 stars: Telegraph “Curiously moving”

The production was accompanied by a specially commissioned Guardian audio play. You can listen to the podcast HERE

BATTERSEA ODYSSEY – Lightbox Theatre

Lightbox Theatre (Link)

Following my work on the development piece BATTERSEA STORIES in November 2014 I was delighted to be cast in the ensemble of the full site-specific production of BATTERSEA ODYSSEY for Lightbox Theatre and directed by Jo Turner. I play Carly who runs the caff on the corner of York Road in Battersea and tells the audience about the neighbourhood spirit and what Battersea was like in the 80’s before gentrification. I also doubled as Emma a yummy mummy who is new to the area, having moved there because of the easy commute to her job at Google in Victoria. The production worked its way around the Katherine Low Settlement (inside and outside) and took in the different groups that are resident there as well as various different local sights. The piece used verbatim material gathered and edited by Emma Faulkner. It was extraordinary to be visited by our ‘real life’ selves!
